Introduction

The civil war is often described as the first war won because of technology. In this essay, different technological advancements made during the war are explored, and their impacts on the Union and Confederacy in their war efforts are analyzed. Some of these important advancements include the telegraph, which modernized communication, and submarines, which changed naval warfare forever. The Union’s victory can be based on their better use of technology than the Confederacy, and by the end of this essay this claim will be supported with multiple primary and secondary sources.
